africaJUICE’s strategy to maximise the social impact of our projects incorporates the following elements:
- economically successfully businesses: our projects will deliver significant tax income for national governments. Fruit will be processed locally to the plantations thereby adding significant value to the product in-country. The juice products will be exported providing foreign currency revenue for host countries and helping trade balances;
- skills and technology transfer: our projects will develop at large scale new commercial crops for Africa and include high technology processing facilities. We will implement best-in-class agricultural practices which will be disseminated widely through technical support to outgrowers;
- building capacity: we will build the management and technical capacity of local staff;
- Fair Trade: our projects will be developed under Fair Trade principles;
- sustainable employment: growing and processing tropical fruits is labour intensive and our projects bring a high level of employment and income potential to rural communities;
- providing local communities with a genuine share of the success of a project by, for example, offering a stake in the new business so they become part-owners and can use the income generated to invest in their own development;
- support to outgrowers: we will actively promote and facilitate the establishment of outgrowers. Our processing facilities will ensure that outgrowers have a market for their products.
